When I met up with Rina yesterday we decided to walk a 'dry route', owing to the rain we have had in the last few days. I had planned to use the map device on my Fitbit and post it to this blog, at the time I was rather puzzled why it wouldn't work. Later I remembered my phone can't receive a signal when I'm in Layer.
Walked down to just beyond the reservoir. Not may birds about, but spotted a couple of Grebe. On our return we crossed the road and walked up to a farm and then along through wheat and barley fields. Last time I was there these fields were still green.
Walked back towards the church and village on a slightly muddy route, it was quite a job to remove all the mud from our shoes. We discussed when we might be able to start our walk to Norfolk. Hope it will be September. Total mileage, a fraction over 6 miles.

I noticed these pretty little blue flowers, which I’m told are Common Selfheal
This view was quite special!

Interesting walk today. Drove to Abberton Reservoir and parked. Walked over the - Layer de la Haye - causeway, continued on a little further before crossing the road and taking the ‘Lord Woodmouse Trail’ around the reservoir.
Saw this, and many more teasels as we walked today. Should have been far more photos but unfortunately my phone battery ran out! Total walk around 3 plus miles.

Yesterday I decided to put plans in place to start my walk from Balkerne Gate, Colchester on Tuesday 22nd September at 10.30 am. Hopefully the Covid-19 rules will be relaxed even more by then!

Walked the Lord Woodmouse Trail in reverse today.
Saw lots of butterflies, moths and four cygnets. Tried to photograph them the other day but my phone battery ran out.
The downside of my Sunday walk was to be either stung or bitten by some unseen creature. It singled out my arm and from the time I first noticed it, it was instantly very painful. Within minutes the bite changed to something very nasty... by Monday morning my arm was bright red, very swollen and very hot! At 8.00 am I was sitting by the phone waiting for the doctors surgery to open! Now on antibiotics.

I’ve not walked very much this week as my arm is still very swollen and painful when it brushes against me. Today I decided I’d chance a walk with Rina.
We extended several of the walks, making it one - it turned out to be just on 7.5 miles.

I’ve had to have several days off as the bite proved to be rather nasty. I then injured my toes which didn’t really help. Today was my first day back walking, only 5 miles and I felt it!
