11th February Update
Over the last two weeks we have been walking closer to home because it's been so wet and muddy under foot. Today we walked around the outskirts of the town. Found it rather annoying that cycle routes give estimated distances but nothing for walkers! Walked a fraction under 6 miles today, very windy, needed my hat.Saturday 15th February Update
This week I’ve tried to get in more walking and exercise at the gym. This morning went out before Storm Dennis arrived as I’d heard that one of the old military gates along Butt Road, Colchester had be restored. Over several years I’ve been campaigning to see these gates refurbished - lovely to see this one in place!

Our weekly walk really went into overdrive because we walked just over 9 miles today! No wonder several parts of my body were hurting. Muscles and hips aching and I thought I’d not make it home! This morning in Head Street we had a little fun when a man saw us using our walking poles, he said, as he pointed north over his shoulder, ‘Everest is that way’. That made us chuckle! Also saw this fantastic wheelie bin house with a ‘living roof’!
Thursday 20th February
We fitted in another hour of training today -
walked some of the footpaths and folley’s of Colchester. Saw this lovely old cash register in a shop window in Military Road. The wind howled and the rain poured... we were very wet by the time we arrived home.Update 25th February
Today we decided to drive to Polstead Heath, Suffolk, this would eventually be the official start of our second day of walking towards Norfolk. Part of the route took us along Potash Lane where we saw clumps of primroses in the banks.
We had some road walking today but also took footpaths across fields. This wasn't easy as the farmers had ploughed up all the paths. I had to try to navigate – trying to keep to the vanished paths – using satellite on my phone. We visited the lovely little chapel of St James, at Lindsey. I'd been there before with my husband, Tony. It was the first time Rina had been. It has an earth floor and the walls are lined with flint – I found it quite spiritual .
